I’ve been meaning to write a post about my ever growing TBR pile since a few days. But before I could start drafting it, I was tagged by the lovely Emily of The Diary of a Bibliophile to do this tag which basically consists of almost all the questions I had been meaning to answer! Thanks Emily! 🙂
1. How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
I’m so glad you asked! For the longest time, I’ve had the biggest problem of downloading e-books and never reading them. I tried organizing them on Goodreads however, I don’t find the site to be the best organizer (at least for me!). I wanted something more detailed where I could add my own private notes, so I made my own little spreadsheet filled with all the books that are currently in my smart phone (I haven’t even begun to add any e-books downloaded onto my laptop!) This is the way I am currently organizing my TBR pile:
2. Is your TBR mostly print or e-book?
Mostly E-books. I keep downloading and downloading and it just gets so out of control ! I do have a lot of print books that I still haven’t read but since I don’t buy physical books that much anymore, it’s mostly e-books.
3. How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
This depends upon my mood. However, I have a wee bit of a problem known as the Shiny Object Syndrome, where I’ll start one book and then get dazzled by another and before I know it, there’s a whole pile of books half-read. When I started organizing my TBR pile on Google Sheets, I made a little pact with myself that the only way I’ll choose the next book to read is to use an online random number generator that will help decide for me.
4. A book that has been on your TBR list the longest?
Srimad Bhagavad Gita. I keep meaning and meaning to read it and I never do! It’s really unfortunate that I haven’t read my own Holy Scripture yet!
5. A book you recently added to your TBR?
Start Your Own Business by The Staff of Entrepreneur Media, Inc
6. A book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover?
Although I love covers, I mostly read books because of their content.
7. A book on your TBR that you never plan on reading?
50 Shades of Grey. My friends recommended it to me and I even put it up on my 2015 Reading Challenge but I recently removed it because I knew I would never read it.
8. An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for?
None as yet. I think I’ll try to finish the 800+ books already on my TBR pile before I fall for another shiny object again.
9. A book on your TBR that everyone has read but you?
Probably 50 Shades of Grey.
10. A book on your TBR that you’re dying to read?
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo.
11. A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you?
Coincidentally, a lot of people have been recently recommending Jhumpa Lahiri’s books to me.
12. How many books are on your Goodreads TBR shelf?
Currently 95.
I tag:

Thank you for the tag! I’m very jealous of your organization regarding your TBR pile – I’ve started multiple spreadsheets over the years but have never managed to finish any of them. They simply get discarded and forgotten after a week or two – oops! Since my TBR is currently extremely out of control, I may have to give it another try…

You’re welcome! I completely empathize! I have the same issue. In fact, this one is only 20% done. I still have a long way to go before I complete it. 🙂

I havent read 50 Shades of Grey either AAAND…I probably never will. It just doesn’t seem like the book for me, and I have too many books to read already!
Good on you for being so organized. I’m jelous of your dedication! I still sometimes buy duplicates since the book looks so awesome and I forgot I already had it!

I agree, 50 Shades of Grey is not my kind of book either. I think it’s overly hyped as well. Thank you, I had to get my e-books organized because everything was getting way out of control. I haven’t completed the spreadsheet yet but hopefully very soon. 🙂

I loved reading your answers! I need to try Google sheets; it looks like a great way to organize book lists! 🙂

Thank you ! I used Google Sheets only because I don’t have Excel on my laptop. I created this template based on what I felt was useful information for me and if you want, I could send the template over to you via email to customize as you wish. 🙂

If you don’t mind, that would be great! Your post has inspired me to organize my books! 🙂

It’s so easy to accumulate unread ebooks- downloading them takes two seconds, but getting around to reading them all takes two million years!
Thanks so much for tagging me! 🙂

You’re welcome. I agree, it is a huge challenge to want to read everything and then prioritize what it is that you really want to read. 🙂

I really like your spreadsheet! I’m always making spreadsheets of things but then I always end up forgetting about them. I have a ton of books on my Kindle that I haven’t read and a few months ago decided to make something to help me keep things straight. https://thewornbookmark.wordpress.com/2015/05/30/book-journal-project-complete/ I wrote that post about it and if you scroll halfway down you can see how I decided to organize my Kindle books. I’m a visual person so it helps me to see the cover of the books rather than just a list of book titles.

I feel ya! I have the same problem. I keep making spreadsheets but as soon as it’s out of sight, it’s out of mind ! Hopefully, this time I’ll stick to it! I am visual too but my problem is a very silly one – I get really messy keeping lists and stuff. I am just going to pop over to your blog and have a look at your book journal ! Your project sounds amazing ! Thanks for stopping by ! 🙂

My TBR list is constantly growing. If I see something that excites me then I just start reading it right away. And completely forget that I have 150+ plus books in my queue. Its a pattern.

Yeah, I agree. I’ve realised that reading requires a lot of discipline and commitment to stick to one thing at a time. Thanks for stopping by my blog! 🙂

So you’re a tracker too? Nice!
I like how organised you are. It feels good, doesn’t it?
The random generator is a good idea as well.

I am actually on my way to becoming more efficient and organized in different areas of my life and this is one of my attempts so far. Mind you, I am nowhere close to done with this list and I keep forgetting I even started it! 🙂
Thanks for stopping by, I would love to read your blog on tracking! 😀
