Writing 101 – Day 12 – Play with word count

“Abby! HELP!”, Tina screamed.

“Tina?”, Abby called out, sounding puzzled. “Where are you? I can’t see you!”

“HERE! I’m locked inside the gym! PLEASE GET ME OUT OF HERE!”

“OMG, how did you get locked inside? Wait, hold on let me get help!”

When the door finally clicked open, Tina stumbled out of the pitch dark gym in relief and into the arms of her friend Abby who was shaking hard with laughter. Even the security guard looked very amused. Never again, thought Tina, never again will I fall asleep in the college gym again!

That’s great 🙂 although knowing it’s condensed from a longer version (here from commons link) leaves me intrigued about the longer version and what you’ve left out – or has it changed entirely from the original version maybe…

Hi, great short story. Reading your earlier comment about feelings of being scared, and the emotional aspect that was in the original story, this short version has a very different feel to it. I love the way that by choosing or not choosing words we can give things a very different feel and perspective. I really enjoyed it. Best wishes, kathie
