RULES

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link back to their blog
  • Display the award on your blog
  • Answer the ten questions sent to you
  • Nominate ten bloggers for the award
  • Make up ten new questions for your nominees to answer

ALICIA’s QUESTIONS AND MY ANSWERS

1. When did you really get into reading? Was it at an earlier age or later in life?
Oh, I was a wee little thing when I got into reading thanks to my dad who encouraged me to read a lot. In fact one of my earlier posts on this blog explains a bit about how I got into reading here

2. What do you like to do when you are not reading?
When I am not reading, I’m either blogging, watching a movie or TV show or spending some time on social media. Other than that, I like to do some yoga everyday.

3. If you had to live in any world in any book, what would it be?
Good question! I suppose, it would have to be the world of Enid Blyton. I grew up reading her books where young pre-teens such The Famous Five, Secret Seven, The Five Find-Outers would go off having adventures on islands or the woods and find themselves solving mysteries. It was a pretty exciting and imaginative world for me and I would have loved to be part of their secret societies.

4. What did you want to be when you grew up? Did you become what your 6 year old self wanted to be?
I wanted to be so many things when I was very young! I wanted to be a writer, have my own magazine, be on TV as a reporter or TV host or work at the airport as ground staff! I didn’t exactly become any of those things but I did work at the airport for a couple of months and decided it wasn’t my cup of tea. I did make a magazine while pursuing my Masters degree in Media and Communication and co-host our college show for one episode and loved both so much! It was a childhood dream come true!

5. What is your favorite Christmas or Holiday tradition?
I am Indian and I absolutely adore the hundreds of festivals we keep celebrating throughout the year! I can’t really pick one favourite tradition but I love it when Indian communities get together and celebrate out on the streets, playing music and dancing and having fun. This is something that you don’t get to see here in Dubai (except maybe during Diwali when kids burst firecrackers) and I really miss that.

6. What TV shows are you ridiculously obsessed with?
I am definitely into Sherlock but I can’t say I am obsessed with it because the waiting period between two seasons is too long that I often forget about it. Currently, I’m into Young & Hungry but my all-time favorite sitcom has to be F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

7. If you could have lunch with any author or actor or mentor/hero, who would it be?
Sigh, Tom Hiddleston. But of course, I have so many mentors, authors and coaches that I would love to meet and ask hundreds of questions.

8. How long does it usually take you to finish a book?
I have actually become slower in reading than when I was a child because I get distracted way too easily. I would say an average of 3-4 days, sometimes even longer!

9. Do you have any pets? What pets would you like to someday bring into your home?
No unfortunately. But I would love love love to have a cuddly cat companion one day.

10. If I told you I didn’t like to read, but I was hoping to find a book that would change my opinion of reading, what book would you recommend to me?
Oh, that’s a tough one! I would really recommend starting with short stories as they’re the one of the best proofs of an author’s talent for telling a compelling tale in a few short pages and ideal for getting into the reading habit. I would love you to start reading Agatha Christie’s collection of shorts like The Listerdale Mystery and The Golden Ball and other stories.

MY QUESTIONS

  1. What is the number one issue that you would personally like to stand up for in today’s world?
  2. Your favourite fall/winter foods?
  3. A favourite movie that you can keep watching over and over again?
  4. If you could adopt a personality trait of any one of your favorite fictional characters in books or film, what would it be?
  5. Your favourite quote/mantra of all time.
  6. In an alternate universe, imagine you’re somebody/something else. What/who do you imagine yourself to be? It doesn’t necessarily have to be human or a living thing. It can be ANYTHING. There are no rules, let your imagination run wild.
  7. Do you remember any memorable prank you played or one that was played on you? Or maybe, there’s one that you would like to play on someone? What was/is it?
  8. If you could ask your favorite mentor/actor/ideal only ONE question, what would it be?
  9. Do you have a go-to place where you can completely feel relaxed?
  10. Tips for blogging newbies?

I NOMINATE:

  1. Jessy of Koolitzable
  2. Rebeca of Books and Messy Buns
  3. Katherine of Neon Yeti Reads
  4. Somali of Scribbles and Scrawl
  5. Bernadette of Haddon Musings
  6. Stefani of Caught Read Handed
  7. Yvo of It’s All About Books
  8. La duchesse d’Erat
  9. Galit of Coffee n’ Notes

Versatile Blogger Award

Versatile Blogger Award

I am so late in replying to the various Blogger award nominations I have received that it’s really shameful and for my tardiness, I do sincerely apologize! I love reading, receiving and passing on Blogger Awards but my problem is, I always procrastinate on them. 😦

Here’s one I got from Ashley, the lovely author of the book blog Dear World, waaaaay back in February and I filed it away, meaning to get to it soon but somehow it’s become much later than I realized ! I’m so sorry Ashley for being so late! 😦

So Ashley posted 7 random facts about herself and that’s what I will do as well:

    1. I’m a teetotaler. I have never had more than a couple of sips of alcohol in my whole life and that too just to see what it tastes like.teetotaler
    2. Despite being in my late twenties, I have a baby face for which I consider myself lucky and cursed at the same time. Lucky because of very obvious reasons (I tend not to age faster) and cursed because not only do I look like I am in my mid-teens but I am also under tall (read: on the petite/short side) so very few people tend to take me seriously until they know my real age. It’s a very weird feeling having to justify yourself sometimes. tumblr_inline_mfr8ukYwAW1ro2d43
    3. I don’t know how to swim despite having the Arabian Sea practically 20 minutes away from home. I’m not afraid, I just don’t know how but it’s on my goals list as of this year!
      Can't swim
    4. Four years ago, I bought a pink bicycle with a wire basket to get back into cycling again (yes, it was for adults and no, it did not have training wheels!) but it got stolen from my apartment building almost two months later. 😦phoebe-rides-bike
    5. My roots are from Gujarat in India but I think I may have been a South Indian in my previous life. Why? Because I just LOVE South Indian food! Idli, Dosa, Uttapam, Adai, Appam, Idiyappam, Kuli Paniyaram, Pongal – I’ll gobble it all up with lots of coconut chutney!Big-Dosa
    6. One of my biggest limitations is my irrational fear of driving which I somehow developed a few months after I got my license. I’ve had a license for exactly 10 years now (almost to the day!) and I haven’t driven more than 20 times ! Crazy, I know! driving ron
    7. I have had a thing for Venice ever since I watched the song ‘Do Lafzon Ki Hai Dil Ki Kahani’ from the Bollywood movie The Great Gambler when I was in my pre-teens.

I hope you enjoyed reading 7 of my totally random facts as much as I had fun sharing a bit of myself with you!

I hereby nominate 7 lovely bloggers:
1. Flying on Empty Thoughts
2. Scribbles and Musings
3. Rashmi of Mind and Life Matters
4. Annie of What the Woman Wrote
5. Rosema of A Reading Writer
6. Anand of Blabberwockying
6. Sona of Read Write Live

On another note, I just hit 300 followers! Thank you to all dear readers for sticking with me! I am so happy to be a part of this blogger community that I cannot express my gratitude enough! Love every bit of encouragement and support received and this makes me even more eager to write and write some more. The ideas which were running dry now seem to be flowing again! 😀

Of Blogger Awards – Liebster Award Nomination #2

Liebster AwardThis is the second Liebster award nomination I received this week and this is from the very kind Jamie of Needle at Sea Bottom. Thank you Jamie! 🙂

Liebster Award is a chain award created by bloggers and passed on from one blogger to another to encourage connections. It is a wonderful, fun way to interact and make friends in the blogging community.

Here, I’m following Jamie’s rules:

1. Thank and link the person who nominated you.
2. Answer the questions given by the nominator.
3. Nominate 11 other bloggers, who have less than 200 followers and link them.
4. Create 11 new questions for the nominees to answer.
5. Notify all nominees via social media/blogs.

Jamie’s 11 questions were:

1. Would you stroll along a deserted beach, or sit and sun?
Both. I stroll when I go to the beach and then I like to sit down and look at the sea.

2. Would you go on an organized cruise, or vacation; If so, where would be your dream vacation?
I would love to go on an organized vacation to Europe to see all the major countries so that I can decide which places I would like to thoroughly see on my own later.

3. If you are a person, who prefers self organized travel plans, where would you go if money was not an issue?
Scotland and Italy.

4. Would you have a travelling companion, if so who would you take?
Ideally, just me, my thoughts, a backpack and a diary. Practically, my sister and a close friend.

5. Do you wish your writing style were different?
Yes, I wish I was more descriptive and imaginative in many ways. Sometimes when I read a lovely book, article or blog post, I imagine what the writer’s thoughts must be like for them to have such beautiful penmanship. I wish I could be eloquent and metaphorical.

6. Do you have a favourite artist, if so which of their artworks do you really enjoy?
No, I am not much of an art follower.

7. What do you do for exercise?
I am not very regular at exercising but when I do, I skip, run up the stairs and brisk walk a lot.

8. Do you enjoy crafting, which are your favourite activities.
I would love to engage in more DIY projects but sadly, I don’t. I love Pinterest, it gives me so many ideas for simple crafting which I conveniently file away.

9. What is your favourite vegetable and why?
The humble potato because it is filling, hearty and complements everything! So comforting too!

10. Where do you go, for peace and quiet?
I don’t have a particular spot to escape to but I love natural places so I would say anywhere far from the city where there are tall trees with a cool breeze rustling through the leaves, the sounds of bird chirping or a cuckoo singing and a little pond nearby.

11. Name your favourite author and which of their books are among the best?
Agatha Christie! My favourites are Cat among the Pigeons, The Body in the Library and The Crooked House

My 11 questions are:
1. What is your dream job?
2. Any hobbies you spend your free time pursuing?
3. Do you have a hidden talent?
4. The best piece of advice you’ve received so far.
5. Have you done something so unlike your personality and felt incredibly brave for accomplishing it?
6. If you could time-travel, which era would you like to visit?
7. Something that you miss from the pre-internet/technology days and wish that it would come back again.
8. What’s in your travel essentials bag?
9. A living person you admire the most and why?
10. Your frequent guilty purchases.
11. Your favourite season and what you love most about it.

I would like to pass on this award nomination to:

1. Nabila Sharani
2. The Bookish Obsession
3. Discovered in the Library
4. The Lady Bibliophile
5. The Sundance Experience
6. Books and Stuff
7. Spreading Loving Kindness
8. Reading, reading, READING
9. Contemplations of Candace
10. Incessant Ramblings
11. GirlHeartsBooks&Tech

Of Blogger Awards – Liebster Award Nomination #1 !

Liebster AwardI’m so excited! I got nominated for two Liebster Awards on the same day! The Liebster Award nomination is a chain award given to new or upcoming bloggers to encourage blogger connections.

I know there are no hard and fast rules but I was unsure of accepting two award nominations. However, I did because I am so touched that my blogger peers are encouraging me and I would like to pay it forward too! 😀

So here’s the first nomination which I received from the lovely Sophie of Keep Going.

I’ve seen different versions of rules for the Liebster Award nomination but I am going to go with the ones that Sophie posted on her blog:

1. Put the Liebster Award logo on your blog.
2.Answer the questions given and then come up with 10 new ones to ask your nominations.
3. Nominate 8 other blogs, let them know you have nominated them and put a link to their blog in your post.
4.No tag-backs.
5. You must tell all the blogs that you have nominated them.

Sophie has asked me these 10 questions which I am answering:

1) Last thing you think before you go to sleep?
I am a late sleeper and a late riser and I am always trying to cure myself of this bad habit. So the last thing I usually think before I go to sleep (late) is, “I MUST wake up early tomorrow when my alarm rings.” (But I don’t 😦 )

2) What’s your comfort food?
Can it be a drink ? I love a good, piping cup of mild black tea and/or hot chocolate.

3) Favourite book/film/TV show?
Favourite Book: I love Enid Blyton books from my childhood days. They are a great comfort to me, especially the descriptive scenes of the country sides and delicious food.
Favourite Film: I love chick flicks and romantic comedies but my absolute favourite is You’ve Got Mail with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan
Favourite TV show: F.R.I.E.N.D.S never fails to cheer me up.

4) What do you hope to achieve with your blog?
I love interacting with people so through my blog, I would like to build a cosy community of blogger friends who share similar interests and who can inspire me and teach me so much from their own experiences. I am already learning so much from so many of the wonderful people I am following! 🙂

5) Is there a quote or phrase that resonates with you?
This too shall pass

6) Tea or coffee?
A well brewed mild cup of tea anytime of the day, especially in the winter!

7) Thing that never fails to make you smile…
Cat and baby videos

8) 3 things you want to try and do this year?
Definitely read more books, get in touch with inspiring people and be more healthier!

9) 3 words that you think other people use to describe you?
Sometimes I think I am a bit shy initially so people think I am too nerdy, good and innocent.

10) Favourite colour
Pink! 🙂

The 10 questions I choose to ask are:

1. If you could have unlimited money for a day, how would you choose to use it?
2. Your favourite animal and why?
3. Describe in a sentence where your dream home is. For eg. A cottage in the countryside with a clump of trees and a babbling brook nearby.
4. Your dream travel destination and a few things you would you like to do there.
5. The most inspiring movie/book you’ve watched or read and what it taught you.
6. If you could have a couple of hours talking to your favourite celebrity/an inspiring person, who would it be and what would you ask them?
7. One thing you love about yourself.
8. One thing you would like to accomplish in this lifetime.
9. An unforgettable moment.
10. Things you would like to see on television instead of ___________ (insert something you don’t like on TV).

I would like to nominate:
1. Musings on Life
2. Curlography
3. The Diary of a Bibliophile
4. The College Chick Chronicles
5. Dear World
6. Sunshine Travels
7. Bethie’s Place
8. Big City Bibliophile
